Hi all,

Just wanting some advice on how best to prepare for water changes.

I have an RO system with GH mixer - bought it from Peter at PSI filters..., I thought I'd fill a big plastic bin - 120 L wheelie or similar with the water I'd have a heater in the bin to bring water up to temp, and a pump such as the Eheim compact 1000 to mix it up (see link to sponsor site) -

I'd also use this to pump the prepared water back into the aquarium. Do you guys think this pump will be strong enough to send the water approx 1.5 meters up?? if not does anyone have another suggestion??

Thanks... Robert

The site doesn't have information on the pump Head.
You need a pump that can push water up 1.5m high. You need to see how much water can a pump deliver at 1.5m rated in their manuals.

GO THE 2000 AS A MINIMUM!

seriously i use the eheim universal 1262 (3400l/h).

it does well well with 1.5m height (400l in under 10 min)

Thanks for the advice guys.. This forum is a must for the discus newbie!!!

I found this very cheap option online, I know its not gonna be as good as Eheim but may do the trick for me... what do you think:

that would be better still, not sure about the build quality, but at that price you could throw it away and not feel too bad about it.

this is how i do mine + i add an airstone running 24/7 and a heater. eheim universal pump is a 1048, it pumps to my furthest tank "5ft" approx 13mtrs away and does a 50% water change in approx 1/2 hr.
