Went shopping with Taksan on Friday, to where else, but an aquarium shop.
Saw this lovely pair in a tank and of course just had to have them (thankyou taksan :D )
Yesterday the pair started digging a spawning pit, and today they are still hard at it.

Good old parrot cichlids! they look grouse Merrilyn!:D
They were one of the first South American cichlids i bred more than 15 years ago.
Keep the fries as they make for a perfect feeder fish! :P

Yes they are Ben. Hypsophrys nicaraguensis, one of my favourite central American cichlids, and one of the most colourful.
Some may remember them as Heros nicaraguensis which was changed in 1987 to Cichlasoma n and again in 2000 for Copora n. The current name became valid in 2003. Talk about confusion
If the scientists can't make up their minds, what chance have we got of following (and remembering) scientific names
And no, I couldn't possibly use the babies as feeders, but they will have to take their chance in the big tank with the other fish (but I will provide lots of hiding places  )
