Eco-Complete and Vacume gravel cleaners?

Hi everyone, ive got a bit of a dillema. Does anyone have a technique for using a gravel cleaner with eco-Complete without loosing half of it to the filter. Any help would be great. Thanks. :D

I use the Eheim Sludge Extractor when needed and apple snails to eat any left over food the discus miss ect

Thanks revkev. Is the sludge extractor the same as a gravel pump, will it suck up the eco complete?

Eheim sludge extractor at $170 is a lot more expensive than gravel pumps
but works.
Some one else may have a better way of doing it????
