Hi mate,
It really depends on what u want to breed
i would go dark for light coloured fish ,
and light for darker or solid fish.

What I do is to put black, brown, any darkish colour will paper between tanks. If you have pair that eat their eggs, fry out of boredom just remove the paper and they will start to defend their territory against the fish in the neighbouring tank

thanks everyone, got some off white water based paint from mums pre school, i'll give it a coat and then pad the back and sides with foam, trying to breed my pearl pigions, blue diamonds, Red rose's and turks (I know asking for trouble, but everyone keeps laying and fighting in the comunity tank) Will put up some pics once the rack is up and the new water tanks are in.
