Hi there

I'm soon to set up my new 3ft tank (2ft high) discus planted tank. I had planned on getting a double aqualina compact PC, with twin power cords. Recently, a discus keeper told me that it's best for discus tanks to have the light a foot shorter than the tank, so that there are dark corners for the discus to retreat to.

I'm wondering what the experience here is with planted discus keepers. I'd prefer to light the whole tank for better growth, but if it really is best for the discus I'd consider only getting the 2ft light.

Any thoughts appreciated.

get a full length light and plant some tall growing plants like swords or lillys(lotus etc), this will cast dark shadows for the fish to retreat to and provide lower light areas for plants like anubis and java moss/java fern. this will give you more planting options and a more balanced look to your tank.
