Hi everybody, My name is Adam, and I have just bought my first 4 discus. I have been on the forums learning for the last week, And have read plenty on the subject. But when I did my first water change half an hour ago, It was obvious that knowledge doesnt make up for practical experiance! I am just hoping my fish didnt find it as traumatic as I did. In the begining everything was going well, I was vacuming my gravel, fish wernt too upset, and then all of a sudden, my tube that the water blows out of(I know very technical terminology) started blowing the water out of my tank and onto the power board. (I read that by pointing it upwards that it helps water turnover). I am next time going to point it back down when I do a water change!! So after near electrecution, and half the towels in the linen closet used, I get the water down to the correct level. After having aged the 60 litres that I need for 24 hours, and getting it to temp, and being limited in funds by a wife who doesnt understand my passion, I tried to use a small pool pump to pump from my barrel into the tank. That did not work, just got more water over the carpet. (used rest of the towels in the linen closet) I then relized that I was going to have to do this the hard way. Bucket by bucket I filled my tank. Tommorow on the way home from work, I am buying whatever it is I need to do this easily!!
P.S thanks to everyone here for all the great info that is available. Cheers!!

Welcome to the forum metalman.

Boy, we can all relate to that story.

My favourite stunt is overfilling the tanks and ending up with a pool of water on the carpet

Welcome to the wonderful and watery world of discuskeeping :wave
