Hi
I've been lurking around the Dwarf Cichlid forum mostly, but as I now have my 1st discus and my tank is planted, I thought I'd post pics of him & the tank. My camera is very poor & so are my skills. He is meant to a Marlborough Red, but he is much more yellow than others I googled on the net. Maybe this means he is a poor specimen - but I think he's pretty anyway. I've ordered 2 friends for him. This tank will shut down shortly & all will move into a 89G (339 L). For this reason, I haven't bothered too much about the actual scape at moment.

your tank looks very nice .I think you will find that the fish will colour up more as it grows it looks like a young fish so it will get redder .it is nice though

Lovely Tank.

They look like some nice rainbows.
Great tank TW! You obviously don't have any problems growing plants in there. Is this tank going to stay as an apisto tank and just moving the discus or pulling it down all together?

Hi discusqueen, scott, fish_r & Robdog
Responding in order, the 2 fish on the right are Boesemani Rainbowfish, unless you mean the harlequin rasboras?
I'm not really worried if he doesn't get more red, as I like his colours. My camera doesn't show it, but the yellow is like marine Yellow Tang. I was happy last night, as for 1st time he came to eat (bloodworms). Very timid & if I made a sudden move, he left. But it's a start.
what are the fine bushy plants behind the blyxa ? Do mean the ones on the left hand side of the tank, placed between the blyxa & the windelov? If so, that is riccia. The riccia needs a haircut at the moment
Unfortunately, the trade off with hubby to get 2 bigger tanks is for this one to shut down. There will be a new 4ft African tank plus the new 339L. I'm not allowed to keep this one running as well  I do have another smaller tank with apistos, but I'm also considering keeping this pair of apisto in with the discus. If I keep the temp at 28 or 29C, maybe both will be happy? Anyway, I will probably need to pop into tankmates forum to discuss appropriate stock.
Thanks to you all for the nice tank compliments too :D

Hi fish_r. Yeah, riccia is good. Some people told me it needs hi light & C02. I have the C02, but low light. I started off with enough to cover just one rock & now it covers about 5 rocks in this tank, and 3 rocks in another tank. The other tank doesn't have C02 or hi-light & it still grows well there. I prefer it to java moss.
Thanks for the windelov compliment. Here is a shot of the wood with windelov, taken just prior to it going in the tank almost 12 months ago. http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l128/TankWatcher/165L/0307.06%20driftwood%201.jpg Right now, it's slightly tilted backwards in the tank & supported by a rock, which creates the cave.
Thought I'd share the 2 new residents, which now ups my discus count to 3. The new ones only arrived yesterday, but as the pics show they constantly hang out together. Glad I bought the extra, as the original seems much happier now. Not as close a clolour match as I hoped. I really like the darker one. BTW, can anyone tell their sex and about how old they are?

i always thought riccia was a high light plant too, i will give it a try soon i think, might wait till i get the new tank then try it it think.
thx for putting the pics up of the wood with the windelov attached, thats another plant i really want to give a go. it looks sweet as, well done :)
very nice looking fish too, it's nearly impossible to tell the sex of discus till they breed and have there breeding tubes out, but some people can make educated guesses, but never 100% till u see there tubes...
