So im planning on setting up a few smaller aquariums with some different plants and fish.
These tanks will most likely be sub 100 lts and no discus, thinking apistos or swarms of schooling fish for this project.
Havent owned guppies or swordtails for many years so might go with a few of them, anyway i digress :D

The options i have been looking at for filtration are:

Mozoo Top Filter

Eden Nano Cannister Filter

Eden Internal Mini Filter
http://www.aquariumsuppliesaustralia.com.au/store/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=2916

I already have plenty of filter media that i want to use on these tanks, so no problems there with the ones that dont have any.
Thinking ahead which would be best if i end up with fry in the tanks ?
Ease of maintenance ?

At this point im leaning towards the Mozoo filters as i can pile the media into the top and clean them easily. Also if i get fry i can put something around the intake to stop them getting sucked up.
The internals though have better flow, and will be easier to place and direct flow.
Any comments/ideas appreciated :D (particuarly from those who have used these filters)

on a small tank i wouldnt go for an internal that wastes tank space, especially when there are so many good externals to choose from.

I think the various types of HOB (Hang on back) filters (maybe one with a biowheel) would be a good choice. They are also cheap and easy to maintain.

I have a couple of old Tetra HoB filters, but you cant really keep other filter media in them due to the design, at least with water flowing through all the media.
Looks like the top filters are getting the go ahead, good point about tank real estate being taken up by an internal, didnt even think about it.
Thanks guys.

This feels nostalgic to me! I was asking the exact same question about a year back, for my 27L tank.

I would go with the Eden canister with the current situation. Back then the only Eden canister I could source was from a shop in the Melbourne CBD, asking for about AUD$120, so I went for an Eheim Classic 2213. I was not used to it at first (overkill), but after seeing the fishes being fine, I think I made the right decision.

I believe you can get an Eden canister for around $50-$60, these days.

2213 is an excellent filter for a small tank, overkill????? whats that??????

Nice to hear there are 'extremists' out there as well illusn!!! :D

With an Eheim 2213 in a 27L tank, the tank would be filtered more than 10 times over, every hour........ yeah sounds about right :D
