I recently bought 3 Geophagus Rio Pindare, but have since read that geophagus are often sold under the wrong name. Can anyone please tell me whether these are rio pindare, or something else? They are only about 4 cm, so possibly too small to be ID'd, but i thought it was worth asking..

Hey mate, here's a pic of my 12cm rio pindare... if it helps you.
Rio's are fairly different to other geo's as they have a silver base, as you can see in the pic compared to my others.
Try and get some better pics and you might need to wait a little longer...
Rio's aren't usually sold under different names, its brachy's that are sold as suri's more commonly.

Thanks for your help
I've been having a lot of trouble finding decent pics of adult rios. From your's i can see that the shape of the head, and the eye colour are the same but for the rest, i guess i'll just have to wait and see

Hmm.. It seems the seller must have been mistaken.. They have developed an opercular mark over the last few days so i'm back to square 1
Thanks to you all for your photos. They're beautiful fish

I bought a young Rio Pindare a few months back around the 4cm mark and they look very similar to yours. It could be a coincidence but I have a short video of him if you want to view it.
