Does active carbon have a place in a planted tank?

What are the pros and cons of running active carbon in a planted tank?

I would have thought the carbon removes nutrients from the water that plants need to grow. Sure we use active carbon to remove medications & cloudiness from the water etc, but does it have a permanent place in a planted tank?

I dont use it in my tank at all, or the previous one.
Ive found that if your dosing ferts and getting good growth than the need for carbon to polish the water is not required.
That said if your finding something is out of whack it might be a good short term solution.

I'm the same. Except for removing meds or filtering rainwater for apisto's. It's a waste of money for long term use. I know it's not that expensive but it is only really effective for a week maybe two
