55 gallon tank, Fluval 304, Whisper 60, weekly 75% water changes. New Life Spectrum only. Proper pH 6.5, otherwise the pH is 7.8-8.2. 5 discus, 2 bristlenose plecos, 12 bloodfin tetras. Let me know what you guys think. More pics in my Photobucket page in my signature.

Feeding. The NLS discus formula sinks and it would just end up in the gravel. This way they all associate the bowl with food and come running when the tube (UGF riser tube used to put food right in bowl) hits the water. Also easy to tell if I overfed.

Umm saw your PH levels saying 7.8-8.2 wow thats way way to high for discus there ph should be around the 6.5-7 ph tange and where you have it is way off the other end you could add marine salt and almost have a salt water aquarium you need to keep the ph around that range as discus do not like being in alkaline water.

Actually if the discus are acclimated right or bred in that pH and have an aggressive water change schedule, they are fine in what is generally too high of a pH.

Umm they might get used to it but it's not the ph there meant to be kept at and should not be kept at

People have bred them at 8.0. Being bred in that pH can affect the pH tolerance range of the offspring. But I do agree that they should be kept at a lower pH. My tap naturally holds at 7.8-8.2 but I use a buffer to keep it at 6.5-7.0.

i dont know,i saw and heard a lot in my time with discus(quite a long time)
in different continents but never of poeple breeding discus at this ph.

I haven't, but one guy on another forum says his buddy does it. Says the hatch rate is affected though, but that it does work. I got some of mine from a breeder who did them in 7.0.

they spawn at 7 but i doubt that they even try at 8,i think this guy is talking s...,its just out of the range where a discus feels comfi.and how we aqll know discus spawn when you make them feel good,with good food and top water quality

That was one of the things he talked about. The guy's system is setup with constant overflow, so they get a 250% water change everyday. I think that is the kay factor in that situation.

thats the thing on forums,everybody can tell things he do but can he proof it?just try to calculate 250% a day on a lets say 2000l breeding setup means 4500l water every day,plus heating cost......
when he dont sit in malaysia singapore or similar his fish must be very expensiv,i would guess a 2" for 150-180$..and that would cover only his expenses
and still ph8,i dont belive it,maybe its possible but i doubt it

I am on well so the only cost for water for me is the electricity to pump it out of the well.

Point is they like it low.
