As far as I know in NSW first home owners don't pay stamp duty on purchases under $500000. This may be wrong, I'm really not sure.

Does anyone know the deal in QLD?? I know the First homeowners grant is nationwide but stamp duty changes by the state. I've heard it isn't applicable on purchases under $250000 but again, not positive.

Don't be shocked...stamp duty is a killer.

NSW government have a stamp duty calculator...I assume Qld has something like it (they are "The Smart State" after all). Try a search engine "Stamp Duty Calculator Queensland". Many banks websites have such a calculator too as part of their mortage calculators.

If you go with the NSW government's take on things...Qld shouldn't have to charge Stamp Duty as they get all of NSW's GST Revenue. ;)
