Beef heart Names of Butchers

Hi Guys

I am starting a list of names of butchers in the Sydney area, where we can order beefheart. You most likely will have to order as it will take a week or so to get from the abattoirs. Try to order at the non busy times, i.e. not at Xmas. So ring first it wil safe the trip. Members in other areas may also like to contribute so we can keep this together, but please start a separate heading.

I buy mine at Macarthur Square - Campbelltown NSW..... its a large store??? Maybe that is why

MAcarthur Square is a shopping centre in Campbelltown. Coles is one of the supermarkets there - the ph number is 0246 254 421. As far as i know they always have beef heart.

There is one out here in Bathurst it is Keppel St meats but you have to ring on Mondays so they will keep one for you (very popular)

You can either buy it diced, or minced. 500g minces costs around $7

The butcher downstairs in eastgardens used to get it in from time to time, but you had to ask for it

Woolworths supermarket at Menai has it - cubed. Makes it more fiddly to cut out fat & sinew. It's with the kidneys, lamb hearts, etc. Suspect if one Woolworths shop stocks it, most would (or could if they chose to). If your local one doesn't stock it as standard, maybe they'd be get it in as a special order?

Joe's Meat at Menai Market place is betting either beef or lamb heart in for me. He might have to order in more that I need, so if anyone is close by & wants some, give Joe's at Menai a call around 18-19 April to see if they did get it in. He says he going to put what I don't take into his freezer, so you may want to grab it before it goes in there.

EDIT: Oct 08. New Manager since previous post. Either can't or won't get it in. Not sure which.

If anyone wants any I can get it for you FREE all you will have to do is pick it up from me at St Helens Park (near Campbelltown)

Have you tried looking in your local Coles in the petfood section of the meat fridges.. that's where I get mine..

Hey Dave, that's still a great offer. I was lucky enough to find a place near to where hubby can walk & pick it up for me. Otherwise, I certainly would be on my way to Campbelltown.

Just call your local butchers in your area. I called three and all three said they could get it in. Another one said they had them in their freezer.

Called Beef Ox Heart and vacuumed packed for $4.5/kg.

A couple of the local Woolies have it my area south of Wollongong. It's in the meat department in one of the stand alone fridges that they keep the fresh pet meat in.
It's sold in 500grm packets already diced, only about $3... does make it a bit hard to clean up for those pieces that need it but there's plenty of pieces that are good to go straight in.
