Nice healthy looking little fish Mike. Are these the ones that came from Melbourne?
They're looking good.

I'll go out on an uneducated limb and say that these guys are A. melgar and that Nanay is the Rio Nanay collection location.
Could end up something like this

Hi everyone. theres 4 fish pictured there.
Im still struggling with the sexing though. There are 2 fish with very dark edges to the pelvic fins and two with faint edges (age or sex?).
Will have to wait and see as they get older.
I leave for Melbounre tomorow night so will try and catch up with people when Im there. Apparently my brother-in-law and nephew have set aside a day to drive around the fish shops in Melbourne. The wife is NOT going to be happy. Im going to love it of course.

Mate, if that's what they turn out like then wow!! What a stunner.
As for sexing they all look pretty similar. From top to bottom I'd say photo 2, 4 and 5 look to be female. They seem a little stockier than the other pics and the ventrals seem shorter.
The last photo and #3 (which I think are the same fish) would be my only guess at a male. A little more slender through the body and a bit of colour on the fins.
Purely guessing though.

Thanks Rob
I hope they turn out something like the pic as well.
Yeh...Im not sure on the sexes, sometimes I think I have 2 pairs, sometimes i think i have 4 females and sometimes I think I have 1 male and three females...
I think Chris did a great job of picking them out though, there is a subtle difference in body shape and colour between 2 of them and the other 2.

now imagine the pain of trying to pick them in the shop
they went through the colour/pattern changes so fast that one second I was so sure, the next second I had to go out front of the shop, take a break and have a smoke because my eyes couldn't take looking at them anymore! :P
I know it's sad, but the whole process of picking them out was kind of enjoyable!

thanks Mike, I'm glad you could see what I was going for with them. anyway, I hope I did ok by you and at the worst you have a buck and a trio of girls ...

Good score! I reckon they are one of the best looking apisto's going around. Are they red tail or blue and who'd you tee them up with???
