Painting Tanks?

I amjust setting up some new discus tanks and I always paint the bottom and back but I was wondering how many people paint the sides? Is it better to let them see other spawning pairs or will that distract them?

Good question David. Depends on the pair.

Some do a better job of parenting if they think another pair can invade their territory, and it keeps the pair bond strong.

With others, they become so distracted by the other pair, that the males forget to fertilize the eggs and spend all their time sparring with the male on the other side of the glass.

A removable divider, that can be slid between the tanks might be the way to go.
