Can you keep breeding pairs in the same tank. For example in a 60 gallon tank you can keep 6 fish. Can you keep 3 breeding pairs?

It certainly wouldn't be a boring tank! They'll never breed like that, at least not successfully. They'll also give each other a fair beating. Once you get pairs it's best to separate them.

Six fish can certainly be housed together in a 60 gallon tank, but breed successfully - no. The first 2 fish to form a pair bond will want to take over a corner of the tank and keep the others out of their territory. This is the time to remove them to their own breeding tank, if you wish to raise fry.
