Just noticing that my Rotala wallichii closes the red tips up at night (not lights out, but the evening even with the tank light still on).

the Rotala wallichii that don't have red tips ie, still growing, do not close up.

Anyone got some info on this ? does yours close up with the lights still on ? should I be turning the lights off, using the Rotala wallichii as a timer, ie turn them on when it opens up and turn them off when it closes up ?

thanks

Michael.

youl find most of your plants start to close up just before the light go out, indicating that there photosynthesizing (spelling??) period has finished.

mine do the same, i wouldnt change your lighting times unless they start to close up hours before your lights go out.

ambulia also tends to do the same.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this is interesting.....a few of my stem plants close up, so I understand what we are talking about here, but not anywhere near before the light shuts off? I actually think it is a few hours after the lights go out, when my plants start to close up?

Do I need to extend my lighting period?

Thanks
