Just wanting everyones thoughts on c02 tanks
I've got the redsea c02 pro setup and looking for a c02 tank, for a 290litre (78 gallon) tank.
would like to only refill the c02 tank once or twice a year.
I'm in Melbourne western suburbs.
What would be the best choice ?
hiring from BOC or Air Liquide ?
hiring a 9kg tank from boronia aquariums (travel time is a real pain(guessing 2-3 hour return trip)
or a 100 litre sodastream tank via mail ?
are there any other choices ?
thanks
Michael.

Hope you realise just how big a 9kg tank is... lol
Didnt know there was a 100L Soda Stream tank, does that mean it holds 100L of compressed C02, or it will make 100L of fizzy drink?

looking at it,
exchange the empty cylinder for another 100 litres of sparkling drink.
http://www.sodastream.com.au/retail/category.asp?catalog%5Fname=Sodastream&category%5Fname=Cylinders#
So I guess it's gonna be small. off to google this.
Maybe I should rephrase things, how much c02 would a 290litre tank consume during a year ? is there a formula for working this out ? ( I know it's got to with ppm but there should be some rough guide right ?)

that was quick.
the 100 litre sodastream is a Alco2jet 100 885g
so, how long would 885g of c02 last ?
off to google again.

On your size tank... 6-8 weeks depending on the flow rate.
On my previous 250L C02 tank a 750g bottle used to last just on 2 months before needing to be filled (or replaced with a spare cylinder)

thanks Proteus,
might find out the size of the 9kg tank and see if it will fit in the cabinet. I think it's the most cost effective option.

I bought my cylinder from "Air Up".

Mine is a 4.5kg cylinder for a shade over $300. This way you own the cylinder, ther is no annual rental fee as there would be with BOC. You can get it refilled from homebrew shops, fire safety/extinguisher companies.
As Proteus said, how long it lasts depends on how much you use...helpful huh...
Example: On my 900-ish L tank, my 4.5kg can last as little as a month or so if i realy feed it in, or you can get about 3-4 months out of it at a more modest flow rate.
By the way, make sure you pay attention to the connections on the bottles that you look at. I may be wrong, but suspect Soda Stream Bottle wont have the "Oz standard" (size & thread) gas cylinder connection.

Just an FYI for anyone that is considering getting a C02 bottle. During January ASA will be joining the Air-Up program, as well as being an reseller/exchange agent for another company dealing with Catalina cylinders.
(To be eligible to use the Air-Up bottles you must live near a listed refilling agent)

sorry, been off setting up the tank.
the the sodastream option, there is an adapter for $35 off ebay that will fit it to a standard.
Proteus,
just checked out air-up, looks like they are close to home, 5 minutes down the road.
AU-2CYL would be fine. is ASA going to ship ? or pickup only ?

It would be the same price going through ASA or your local agent.
It would probably be easier and better in the long run if you get to know your local agent/refilling location as refills can only be done in person.

Hey Diveboy, where is the western suburbs agent ?
Im in the west as well, and driving to Boronia has its limitations.
Havent had a chance to check out local homebrew shops yet, might find something there as well.
