Hello D.F

All this talk about substrate has me hooked ! :?
Eco-complete looking good ASA 8-)

When starting a tank, what is the best depth for substrate ?
(I'm planing to add sand over top as I like the look better than substrate)

Also a silly question, does substrate have a life ? Do I need to add new stuff after X years ?

Thanks

What sort of plants do you want to keep?

Looking to keep the usual stem plants, a few swords and crypts.
Something close to your CO2 trial tank ( as close as I can )

It will be a low light tank, so nothing special.

I hope that helps

I run 2" of substrate then 1"ish of sand on top, with a deeper depth at the back of the tank, although only marginal. Grows crypts up front and stems in the back.
